Yalumba The Reserve 2001
|Region||Australia, South Australia, Barossa|
The Reserve represents the finest twenty barrels of red wine from the cellars of Yalumba and is made only in exceptional vintages. Dense inky red in colour the nose is full of deep red fruits, spices and cloves with rich chocolates and concentrated sweet licorice all enveloped in creamy oak aromas. The palate is big and rich with sweet plummy fruit. The initial impact of plums, anise and sweetness continues to linger on and on. Like all The Reserves this is a wine built with structure and finishing with mouthfuls of long fine grained tannins.
Full-bodied and powerful, this is still quite youthful, powered by Graves-like notes of earth, tobacco and vanilla wrapped around a solid core of cassis. A bit chewy on the finish, but there's plenty of fruit, too; drink 2010-2020. 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Shiraz.
Firm and chewy, with a pulsing core of currant and plum fruit under a layer of spicy, earthy tannins. Has presence and depth. Needs time to soften. Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. Best after 2010. 475 cases imported.
